Privacy Policy
Speechly values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Speechly, a brand owned by Liberace Pte. Ltd. ("Speechly," "we," "us," or "our"), handles information when you use the Speechly iOS application, website, backend services, and related services.
Information We Process
Speechly does not require you to create a Speechly account. We process limited information needed to provide and protect the service, including text, documents, article text, URLs, generated audio, speech timing data, app settings, subscription status, device and app integrity data, and technical information such as request metadata, diagnostics, and logs.
The content you import or enter into Speechly remains yours. We process it only to provide app functionality, such as importing readable text, generating audio, syncing or storing content where you choose to use device or iCloud features, troubleshooting, security, and improving reliability.
Text-to-Speech Processing
Speechly supports both on-device playback using Apple's built-in voices and server-generated playback using Speechly's backend and self-hosted text-to-speech infrastructure. When you use server-generated voices, the text needed to generate audio is transmitted to Speechly's backend and processed by our self-hosted TTS service.
To improve performance and reduce repeated generation, Speechly may cache generated audio and speech timing data for a limited period. Our current backend cache is configured for up to 7 days when caching is enabled. Cache keys are derived from the text, voice, model, and audio format used for generation.
Link Import and Document Features
If you import a web link, Speechly sends the URL to our backend, fetches the webpage, and extracts readable text so it can be used in the app. The extracted title, text, and final URL are returned to the app. Files, photos, scans, recordings, and typed text may be processed locally on your device and, where required for server-generated voices, transmitted to Speechly's backend for TTS processing.
Device Permissions
Speechly may request camera access to scan text, photo library access to choose images for text extraction, microphone access to record speech, speech recognition access to turn recorded speech into text, storage access to save app data or audio locally, and background audio access so playback can continue when the app is not in the foreground.
These permissions are used for app functionality. You can manage these permissions in iOS Settings.
App Security and Attestation
Speechly may use Apple App Attest or similar security mechanisms to help verify that backend requests come from a genuine Speechly app build. This may involve processing an app attestation key identifier, one-time challenge, attestation object, short-lived bearer token, request metadata, and related security logs. This is used to protect the service and reduce abuse, not to create a user account.
Analytics and Diagnostics
Speechly may use analytics, crash reporting, diagnostics, and performance tools to understand onboarding, app reliability, feature usage, crashes, and performance. These tools may process product interaction data, diagnostics, device information, and technical identifiers depending on how the app is configured.
We do not use analytics to collect the text, documents, recordings, or generated audio that you use with Speechly.
Payments and Subscriptions
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store or by Google through Google Play, depending on where you download or purchase Speechly. We do not receive your full payment card details. Apple or Google may provide subscription status and transaction information needed to unlock paid features, restore purchases, and provide support.
Third-Party Services
Speechly may use Apple services for App Store payments, iCloud or device features, speech recognition, on-device text-to-speech, and app security. Speechly may also use Google services for Google Play payments, Android device features, app security, and related platform services. We may also use infrastructure, analytics, diagnostics, hosting, or storage providers to operate the service. These providers process information according to their own terms and privacy policies.
Data Retention
Content stored locally in the app or in your iCloud remains under your control and can be deleted by managing the app, device storage, or iCloud storage. Server-side generated audio and speech timing cache entries are retained only for a limited period where caching is enabled, currently up to 7 days. Security challenges, attestation tokens, logs, diagnostics, and operational records are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for security, troubleshooting, legal, and operational purposes.
Your Choices
You can delete local app content from your device, manage iCloud data through your Apple account, change app permissions in iOS Settings, cancel or manage subscriptions through your Apple ID, and contact us for privacy requests related to information we control.
Children's Privacy
Speechly is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, products, or legal requirements. The updated version will be posted with a new "Last updated" date.
